Lord Puttnam becomes chairman of ProferoProfero, the digital communications specialist, has appointed Lord Puttnam as its new chairman.

The 65 year-old Lord Puttnam is an established leader in advertising and film and has been drafted in to help the eight year old company fulfil its vision to be one of the leading communications groups in the world.

David Puttnam started his career in advertising, working with the likes of Charles Saatchi and Alan Parker at the legendary CDP.

He then became producer of such Oscar winning films as The Killing Fields, Midnight Express, The Mission and Chariots of Fire.

Having been chairman and chief executive of Columbia Pictures from 1986 to 1988 he retired from film production to focus his energies on education.

He is the former chairman of the National Film and Television School, was recently appointed deputy chairman of Channel 4, and made a fellow of Bafta in February.

Daryl Arnold, chief executive and co-founder of Profero, said: “The media, marketing and communications industry is in the midst of a revolution that is being driven by the consumer and their internalisation of all things digital.

“As a business we are being asked to create extraordinary consumer experiences, respond to local and global marketing opportunities and take ownership of the investments we recommend and execute.

“All of these developments place a significant responsibility on the shoulders of the team at Profero and I am delighted that David has agreed to guide us through what will undoubtedly be a very exciting period of change and growth.”

Lord Puttnam’s appointment follows comments he made during his keynote address at an Internet Advertising Bureua event in 2005 when he said if he were to enter the industry today, it would be with a company like Profero.

Commenting on his new position, Lord Puttnam said: “My experience over the past forty odd (some very odd) years has encompassed marketing, entertainment and social issues, a fascinating mix that is integral to the daily lives of consumers and citizens.

"A business that can combine and magnify these dynamics can only create incredible value for their clients and, as a by-product, themselves. To me Profero is in just such a position, and it’s now my job to help them realise their potential.”

Profero currently employs more than 200 people operating in 12 world cities for a broad range of clients, including Ask.com, Disney, Dyson, Johnson & Johnson and Mini.
